Whitney Houston and Dana Bash
Whitney Elizabeth Houston was conceived to a musical family 9 August 1993, in Newark New Jersey. Whitney is a cousin and daughter to the singing sensation Dionne. She began singing in a choir at the church she attended The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark in the early years of her childhood and by the age of fifteen, she was singing back vocals professionally along with the mother of her on Chaka Khan's hit song from 1978 Im Every Woman. Then she went on to join the backing vocals of Lou Rawls and Jermaine and even her mother. The high quality of her performance as the lead vocalist in New York funk group Material caught the eye of major record companies including Arista and Arista, which she was signed in 1982, and was with them for the rest of her career. Whitney Houston, her debut album, released in 1985 was the top-selling album of the debut artist. Singles such as The Greatest Love of All, How Will I Know If You Give Good Love, and Saving all My Love were all released on the album. They helped Houston to achieve the seven US top tens that surpassed even the top tens of The Beatles. The album sold 3 million copies the first year as well as 25 million around the world. The album won her first six Grammys. Its Whitney 1987 record, which included The album's tracks, such as Where Do Broken Hearts and I Wanna Dance With Somebody as hits, helped build upon the success she had achieved. The 1992 film The Bodyguard sealed her spot as one of the most successful musicians in history. The film and her part in it was not well received, but the soundtrack as well as her version to Dolly's I Will Always Love You were charting for months on the charts and she sold over 44 million singles and albums all over the world. The same year, she was married to Bobby Brown who was a former New Edition singer. She had their sole daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown. They were married on March 23, 1993. It was at this point and in 1996, she'd become a regular user.
